Maximizing Coverage: Conventional Repeater Solutions

Conventional Repeater

A conventional two-way radio system with a repeater is a step up from basic simplex (radio to radio) direct mode operation. In a nutshell, end user radios communicate through a high-power repeater, giving better coverage and more centralized control.

A conventional repeater is an integral component of a two-way radio system, designed to amplify and rebroadcast signals, ensuring extended coverage and optimal clarity. In the realm of two-way radio communication, Motorola’s conventional repeaters play a pivotal role in eliminating dead zones and boosting signal strength, especially in challenging terrains or dense urban landscapes. By capturing and retransmitting signals, these repeaters enhance the reliability and reach of transmissions, making communications more efficient and uninterrupted. For businesses or services requiring consistent on-campus connectivity, integrating a conventional repeater can be a game-changer, fostering clearer and broader communication channels.

As an example, it is well known that members of the hospitality industry, such as hotels, must offer excellent customer service to ensure patrons are repeat visitors and leave positive reviews to attract new customers. Guests need to feel safe, secure and well cared-for. Many hotels install MOTOTRBO repeaters on the premises, giving excellent coverage all the way from the basement to the penthouse suite for various departments such as maintenance, security, and guest relations. With their MOTOTRBO digital two-way portable radios operating through a repeater to provide the coverage required, the staff have the tools they need to deliver a top-class guest experience with instant team communications.

Feature Highlights

A repeater brings many benefits to your workplace communications:

Improved Coverage: With high transmitter power and a sensitive receiver, your coverage area is significantly boosted.

Audio Clarity: The digital error correction capability within the unit also improves voice quality.

Voice and Data Applications Interface: With the MOTOTRBO repeater IP interface, you can more efficiently implement operations-critical applications such as Work Order Ticketing, GPS Tracking, Dispatch Consoles, and Telephone Interconnect.

Extended Capacity: Analog repeaters can only support 1 simultaneous call at a time per repeater. MOTOTRBO digital repeaters use both TDMA timeslots of a DMR standard radio channel. This means that you can have a call going on timeslot 1 and a call going on timeslot 2 and the users will not hear or interfere with each other. This is ideal for situations where you may have the maintenance department on a separate channel than a security department or you may want your front line workers separated from the supervisor channel, for example. Depending on user activity, this type of a solution can support up to 200 radio users.

Scalability: MOTOTRBO repeaters can be software upgraded from Conventional repeater mode to be compatible with enhanced technologies like IP Site Connect, Capacity Plus, and Capacity Max operation so that you can always leverage your existing investment when upgrading to a more advanced system architecture.
